The president of the Ghana Football Association has revealed that Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has made it clear that he wants to represent the African country rather than England.
Frimpong was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana, but moved to London at the age of 14. He has since gone on to represent England at Under-16 and Under-17 levels.
However, GFA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi has claimed that he met the 19-year-old last night and was encouraged by the midfielder's words.
"He will play for Ghana," Nyantakyi said. "We had a meeting last night and he told me he wants to play for Ghana. We will send off all the necessary paperwork to FIFA now and we hope to have everything concluded within two or three months.
"I am very happy for this because he is a good player."
Frimpong missed Arsenal's 8-2 defeat to Manchester United after being sent off in the previous match against Liverpool.
