England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce has insisted that he will not take Jack Wilshere to the European Championships this summer.
Reports had emerged stating that Pearce was keen to include the Arsenal midfielder in his party for the tournament in Israel, with the 21-year-old likely to miss the majority of the Premier League season with an ankle injury.
However, Pearce has made it clear that taking the Arsenal midfielder is too risky to Roy Hodgson's long-term plans.
"Roy will be the one that guides it, full stop," Pearce told reporters.
"It will be his call on who he thinks needs that tournament experience at this level.
"Wilshere and [Danny] Welbeck are so important to the seniors that they'll go with them, but there's a point where we have to see the emergence of young talent."
The senior squad face San Marino on Friday before travelling to Montenegro in their Group H World Cup qualifiers.
