Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has hit back at Joey Barton’s claims that the midfielder was close to joining the Gunners.
The 29-year-old claimed that he had held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over a proposed move.
Despite the midfielder’s admission, Hill-Wood has denied that the board was aware of interest in the midfielder.
"It's not something the board heard about and if it was a serious proposition I certainly would have expected us to,” Hill-Wood told the Daily Star.
Meanwhile, the Queens Park Rangers captain has since claimed that joining Neil Warnock’s side was the best decision for his career.
