Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna believes that the criticism targeted at teammate Mesut Ozil has been "a bit harsh".
The German international came under scrutiny for his performance during the Gunners' 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The former Real Madrid star had the chance to give Arsenal the lead when he was awarded a penalty, but he squandered the opportunity.
"It is a bit harsh on him because since he came he has played every game and physically when you play every three days it is very difficult, especially in England," Sagna told the club's official website.
"It is difficult because when you miss an opportunity because you think about it for a long time, it stays in your mind and you can't delete it.
"The best way to do it is to score as soon as possible and keep your focus. He is a quality player, as he has shown before, and he is really important for the team."
Manager Arsene Wenger revealed today that Ozil is still mentally recovering from the penalty miss.
