Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he is unhappy about today's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal, but pleased with the way his players performed at the Emirates Stadium.
A brace from Olivier Giroud - one from the penalty spot - ensured that Southampton's positive display failed to deliver any points.
"I'm clearly unhappy with the result and the way we lost as well, but this is football - these things happen," BBC Sport quotes Pochettino as saying.
"We competed well, though, in Arsenal's ground, the league leaders. We competed until the last minute and that's the positive. We tried our best."
Pochettino also came out in support of goalkeeper Artur Boruc, who failed to clear a back-pass and allowed Giroud to tap in.
He added: "It's not really necessary to analyse what happened, we all saw it on the pitch.
"We want to support our keeper in spite of this mistake - these things can happen in football and we need to work hard to make sure they don't happen again."
Southampton are still fourth in the league despite today's result.
