Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is reportedly set to join Celtic on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old made the switch from Scotland to North London during the summer of 2019, linking up with the Gunners as they chased Premier League supremacy.

Tierney played a vital role during his first three campaigns at the Emirates but has fallen down the pecking order in recent times under Mikel Arteta.

The left-back was loaned out for the entire 2023-24 campaign to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, for whom he played 26 matches across all competitions.

Since swapping Parkhead for Arsenal over five years ago, Tierney has turned out on 128 occasions for the Gunners, helping the club to FA Cup glory during the 2019-20 term.

Arsenal man Tierney 'close' to emotional Celtic return

According to The Telegraph, Tierney's six-year stay at Arsenal is set to come to an emotional end at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

The report claims that the 27-year-old is close to agreeing a pre-contract agreement with former club Celtic over a switch in the summer window.

It is understood that Tierney has rejected an approach from Everton, who would have offered the left-back another chance at being a first-choice option in the Premier League.

There has also supposedly been serious interest for the Scotsman from across Europe, with Bayer Leverkusen, Sevilla and Juventus all wanting the player.

However, it is believed that Tierney has decided on a move back to Celtic Park, where he won five Scottish Premiership titles between 2015 and 2019.

How has Tierney fared this season?

Tierney has not been frozen out of the first-team plans by Arteta at Arsenal, instead blighted by a serious hamstring injury sustained while on Euro 2024 duty with Scotland last summer.

The 27-year-old made his return from injury on December 18, playing 69 minutes of the EFL Cup quarter-final success over Crystal Palace.

Since then, though, Tierney has been forced to settle for a spot on the bench for the most part, with 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly stealing the spotlight in North London. body check tags ::
