Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hinted that he plans to use new signing Danny Welbeck in a central role.
The 23-year-old joined the Gunners for a reported £16m from Manchester United on deadline day.
Welbeck spent much of his United career being used in the wide areas, prompting speculation as to where the Arsenal boss will deploy the England international.
However, with striker Olivier Giroud expected to be sidelined until January, Wenger says that Welbeck can fill that void.
"We lost an important striker in Olivier Giroud and we're short in numbers up front," he told reporters.
"Danny Welbeck is an ideal signing for us because he can play through the middle, which I think is his best position, and also on the flanks.
"He brings a team attitude, which is very important to us, pace as well and as you can see with England, goalscoring."
Welbeck warmed up for his Gunners career by scoring both goals in England's 2-0 victory over Switzerland on Monday.
He could make his Arsenal debut against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
