Arsene Wenger: 'I won't change'

Arsene Wenger says that he will not abandon his philosophy of bringing through youth players.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he will not change his footballing philosophy despite recent disappointment in North London.

The Frenchman is renowned for bringing in young players and advancing them through into the first team.

However, the Gunners have been forced to sell a number of the players that Wenger brought in, such as Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, while Robin van Persie also looks likely to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Johan Cryuff recently reaffirmed his belief that clubs do not need millions to be successful and win the Champions League - and Wenger agrees with the Dutchman.

"I totally agree with Cruyff — and I won't change," Wenger told The Sun. "The only sad thing is that sometimes your work is destroyed by others.

"You want to see a player in his prime doing it for your club. But it does not work like that all the time. I am a victim of that. I lost Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Cesc Fabregas at an age where they should have been playing their best football for Arsenal. But I never left the club when I could have.

"I could have left 10 times to join another club but I didn't because I have worked with the same vision and philosophy at Arsenal for the last 16 years — and that won't change."

Wenger has been in charge at Arsenal since 1996.
