Arsene Wenger vs. Jose Mourinho: Top five matches

Ahead of Arsenal against Chelsea tomorrow, Sports Mole picks out the most memorable matches between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho's teams.

Believe it or not, Arsene Wenger has failed to get the better of Jose Mourinho in any of the nine encounters that they have come up against each other.

The Frenchman will no doubt be looking to make it 10th time lucky when his Arsenal side play host to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night.

Ahead of that clash, Sports Mole has picked out the five best encounters between Wenger's Arsenal and Mourinho's Chelsea.

1. Arsenal 2-2 Chelsea, December 2004
It was the first time that the bosses had pitted themselves against each other and there was very little to split them. Thierry Henry put the Gunners in front with just two minutes on the clock, but that was soon cancelled out by Chelsea skipper John Terry. Henry restored the lead for the home team, but just after the restart, Eidur Gudjohnsen ensured that the spoils would be shared with a deft header. Henry had a clear opportunity to seal all three points for Arsenal in the closing stages, but he fired well over from eight yards out.

2. Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea, December 2005
If they weren't out of the title race before this clash, Arsenal certainly were after it. Henry hit the post early on, but after that the Blues were in control. Dutch winger Arjen Robben broke the deadlock six minutes before the break, while Joe Cole made sure of the outcome in the 73rd minute with a curling effort. It was a result that left Arsenal languishing in eighth, some 20 points behind their visitors.

3. Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal, December 2006
Chelsea's grip on the title started to slip as they lost more ground on Manchester United with this draw. Chances were few and far between during the first half and it appeared that neither side were going to score until Mathieu Flamini put Arsenal ahead in the 78th minute with a strike from the edge of the area. Michael Essien hit back six minutes later with a swerving shot from distance, but it was not the result that Mourinho's men were after. It was also the first time Ashley Cole had come up against Arsenal since he departed for Stamford Bridge.

4. Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal, February 2007
This is the only time that the two managers have contested a major trophy and it was Mourinho who was celebrating with the League Cup. A young Theo Walcott put Arsenal 1-0 up with a composed finish in the 12th minute, but that advantage was soon eradicated by Didier Drogba. The match was stopped in the second half for several minutes when Terry was knocked unconscious, but Chelsea rallied without their captain and Drogba scored what would turn out to be the winner six minutes from the end. There were ugly scenes as the final whistle was blown as players from both sides brawled, which ended in red cards for John Obi Mikel, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor.

5. Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea, May 2007
It was the day that Chelsea surrendered their title to Man United, who regained the trophy for the first time since 2003. Chelsea's Khalid Boulahrouz was sent off for fouling Julio Baptista, with Gilberto Silva putting Arsenal 1-0 up from the penalty spot. Essien pulled Chelsea level after the restart with a diving header, but the West Londoners were unable to score the winner that would have kept their slim hopes of a third straight title alive.
