Werder Bremen, Arsenal clash on social media over Serge Gnabry hat-trick

Werder Bremen and Arsenal clash on social media over Serge Gnabry, who left the Emirates Stadium in the summer, scoring a hat-trick for Germany.

Arsenal have hit back at Werder Bremen on social media after the Bundesliga outfit mocked the Gunners following Serge Gnabry's debut hat-trick for Germany.

Gnabry, who failed to make the grade at the Emirates, joined Bremen in the summer after 18 appearances and just one solitary goal for Arsene Wenger's side.

Since his move, the 21-year-old has bagged four goals for his new club and became the first Germany international to score a hat-trick on his debut since Dieter Muller in 1976 in Friday night's 8-0 hammering of San Marino.

Following the World Cup qualifier, the Green-Whites poked fun at Arsenal with a tweet alluding to their perceived reputation as perennial fourth-place Premier League finishers.

The Gunners responded with a tweet of their own, saying: "On the subject of hat-tricks, remember this?" alongside a picture of Ray Parlour celebrating his third goal in Arsenal's 6-2 demolition of Bremen in the 2000 UEFA Cup semi-final.

Up next for the 2014 World Cup winners is Tuesday's friendly against Italy at San Siro.
