Aston Villa set a new club record by going six league games without a goal as Arsenal hammered them 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday afternoon.

In-form Olivier Giroud got the ball rolling in the eighth minute before Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin put gloss on the win after half time.

ARSENAL

Goal

David Ospina: Only had two saves to make, but both were good ones at the end of the first and second half to keep Villa out. (7/10)

Defence

Hector Bellerin: Our man of the match after an all-around excellent display. The Spaniard got forward when possible but also positioned himself well defensively and made some key clearances. Capped a fine display with a pinpoint low drive in injury time. (8/10)

Per Mertesacker: Rarely troubled on an easy afternoon. Almost set up a goal with a rare burst of pace and good cross. (7/10)

Laurent Koscielny: Enjoyed one of his most comfortable games this season as Villa's toothless attack offered little. (6/10)

Nacho Monreal: Not as influential as Bellerin down the other side, but calm and cool on the ball. (7/10)

Midfield

Francis Coquelin: Lauded for his display against Manchester City two weeks ago, his physical presence wasn't required as much. Solid. (7/10)

Aaron Ramsey: Outshone by the four in front of him on a quiet afternoon. Taken off in the 77th minute. (6/10)

Theo Walcott: Squandered an opening inside the first minute, but made amends with a well-taken goal. His first touch foxed the Villa defence and he stuck it away with aplomb. (7/10)

Santi Cazorla: Another masterful display from the little Spaniard. Unlucky to hit the post in the first half but then scored one and set up two in the second. (8/10)

Mesut Ozil: Two goals in two games for the German, but his standout moment was the inventive flick that set Giroud away for the opener. Getting back to his best. (8/10)

Attack

Olivier Giroud: Set the Gunners on their way with a cool finish before releasing Ozil for the second. Five goals in six league games for the coiffured Frenchman. (8/10)

Substitutes

Tomas Rosicky: Unlucky not to start after his polished display at Brighton last week. Came on with 20 minutes remaining when the game was already up. (6/10)

Chuba Akpom: Came on with Rosicky and looked eager to impress. Gave Villa problems and won the penalty. (7/10)

Mathieu Flamini: Replaced Ramsey late on and did well not to get his customary booking. (6/10)

VILLA

Goal

Brad Guzan: Maybe should have done better with Ozil's scuffed effort, but definitely should have beat away Cazorla's penalty after staying on his feet and reading that the Spaniard was going down the middle. (4/10)

Defence

Alan Hutton: Saw very little of the ball out on the right as Arsenal overran the visitors. (5/10)

Jores Okore: Played Walcott onside in the early stages, but wasn't punished. Had a tough time with Giroud all afternoon. (5/10)

Ciaran Clark: One of two Villa players to get booked and the culprit for playing Giroud onside for the opener. (4/10)

Kieran Richardson: Like Hutton, unable to affect the play going forward as he was often on the back foot chasing shadows. (5/10)

Midfield

Carlos Sanchez: Struggled to stem many of Arsenal's attacks as the Gunners' superiority shone through. (5/10)

Fabian Delph: Back in the starting lineup after signing a new contract but failed to have an impact. (5/10)

Tom Cleverley: Barely noticeable in the middle before being taken off midway through the second half. (4/10)

Carles Gil: The only Villa player to impress on his first Premier League start. Tried to get forward whenever possible and sent over some inviting crosses that his teammates should have done better with. (7/10)

Andreas Weimann: Squandered Villa's only real chance by not making good contact from Gil's perfect cross. (4/10)

Attack

Christian Benteke: Like so many of his teammates, was nowhere near his best. Villa need him to rediscover his best form soon. (4/10)

Substitutes

Gabriel Agbonlahor: Came on midway through the second half but the game was already dead and he didn't do much. (5/10)

Scott Sinclair: Made his Villa debut and got into some good positions. Villa fans will hope he can have the same sort of impact that Gil has had. (6/10)

Ashley Westwood: Given 15 minutes and almost broke Villa's duck with a fierce hit in injury time that was beaten out by Ospina. (6/10)
