Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are trying to tie down teenager Alex Iwobi to a new deal.
The winger has impressed with two goals in his two Premier League starts for the Gunners, prompting Wenger to push for a longer-term deal despite him having three years remaining on his current contract.
"We are discussing to extend him," Wenger told reporters at a press conference. "I think he is a real Arsenal person, he has been here since the age of eight.
"He has three years left at the end of the season but we want to keep him here for longer. He has emerged as a player with good impact."
Wenger also refused to confirm reports linking the side with a big-money summer move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
"At the moment we are just starting to look at people who can strengthen our squad," Wenger said, "but we are not on any particular case in a concrete way."
The Gunners have also been linked with a bid for Borussia Dortmund attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan in recent days.
