Arsenal are reportedly planning to hijack Liverpool's move for Maxi Pereira with a bid of their own in January.
The Benfica full-back has been linked with the Anfield outfit in recent weeks with rumours of Glen Johson's exit from the club intensifying.
It is believed that Liverpool were close to wrapping up a deal for Pereira, who is seen as an ideal replacement for the England international, although The Metro claims that the Gunners could pounce with the Uruguayan's contract up at the end of the season.
Pereira has made 14 appearances for Benfica this season, finding the net on two occasions in the Portuguese Liga.
The Premier League duo are also said to have shown an interest in signing Anderlecht playmaker Dennis Praet.
