Arsenal are reportedly preparing to offer Granit Xhaka a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the Gunners this summer, with Roma said to be leading the race for the Switzerland international.
However, the Serie A giants are allegedly unprepared to meet Arsenal's £17m asking price for the experienced midfielder, which has seen the proposed deal break down.
Xhaka's current deal in North London is due to expire in June 2023, and according to The Athletic, Mikel Arteta's side are considering offering him a new contract to protect his valuation.
The report claims that the difficulty in replacing the Swiss this summer has seen the Gunners come round to the idea of keeping him at the club for the 2021-22 campaign.
Xhaka, who made four appearances for his country at Euro 2020, has featured on 220 occasions for his Premier League club since arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016.
