Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on signing Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez.
The Gunners were defeated 3-0 by Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, after which Shkodran Mustafi received criticism for his marking of City striker Sergio Aguero that led to the opening goal.
Spanish outlet GOL report that, due to Mustafi's lacklustre performances, as well as the impending retirement of Per Mertesacker, Wenger is keen to bring fresh faces into the Emirates Stadium, with Uruguayan international Gimenez on the Frenchman's shortlist.
The outlet also says that Wenger is conscious of Laurent Koscielny's long-standing heel problem, which has seen the defender drop in and out of the team in recent seasons.
Gimenez has a £57m release clause in his contract in the Spanish capital.
