Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has agreed a one-year contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.
The 32-year-old's previous deal with the Gunners was due to expire at the end of the season.
Arteta's representative Inaki Ibanez told footmercato.net: "Mikel is no longer free next June, because he now has an extra year on his contract."
Manager Arsene Wenger has always insisted that Arteta would be staying with the Londoners, and initial terms on a new contract were thought to have been agreed before the New Year.
The Spaniard joined Arsenal from Everton for £10m in 2011 and has since made 136 appearances in all competitions.
