Stan Collymore: 'Arsenal should have signed Luis Suarez'

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore claims that Arsenal didn't try hard enough to sign Luis Suarez last summer.

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger should have tried harder to sign Luis Suarez last summer.

The Gunners had two bids rejected for the Reds striker, and Collymore believes that had the Frenchman threw "the kitchen sink" at Liverpool, then it would have been hard for the Anfield outfit to refuse.

He told The Mirror: "He forked out £42.5m to land Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in September and I am convinced Suarez would have been the final piece of the jigsaw.

"What Wenger should have been saying was, 'right, let's stop at nothing to get Suarez', and promised him and Ozil a couple more world-class players would be joining them after the World Cup as well.

"It didn't have to be like that, though. It just needed Wenger to throw the kitchen sink at Liverpool for Luis Suarez and it would have dramatically changed their fortunes. Suarez has proved once again this season how valuable he is to Liverpool but, even so, I'm not sure the Anfield money men would have been able to turn down an offer of around £65m."

The Gunners host the Reds in the FA Cup this afternoon.
