Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has laughed off Arsenal’s bid for Gary Cahill, reported to be in the region of £6m.
The defender, who has been an interest of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger throughout the summer, has also been linked to Liverpool.
The Trotters boss confirmed that they had rejected a bid for the 25-year-old.
"There was a conversation between [Bolton chairman] Phil Gartside and a representative of Arsenal," said Coyle. "I'm only passing this on as a third party, but the word derisory doesn't even cover it.
"When I make an offer for a player, I'd like to think in the right ball park, but this wasn't even close."
The Gunners will have to increase their bid to around £17m if they are to meet Bolton’s valuation of Cahill.
