Granit Xhaka 'agrees new Arsenal contract'

:Headline: Granit Xhaka 'agrees new Arsenal contract':
Granit Xhaka reportedly prepares to pen a new deal with Arsenal after Roma failed to meet the Gunners' asking price for the midfielder.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is reportedly close to committing his future to the club until 2025.

The Switzerland international's Arsenal career was in tatters after his foul-mouthed outburst towards supporters against Crystal Palace in 2019, but he won the faith of Mikel Arteta and was a key player for the Gunners last term.

However, Xhaka has still been heavily linked with a summer departure and was expected to complete a move to Roma, only for the Italian side's offer to fall short of Arsenal's £17m valuation.

Now, football.london reports that Xhaka - whose existing Arsenal contract expires in 2023 - will instead pen a two-year extension at the Emirates, keeping him on the books until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The report adds that the former Borussia Monchengladbach man remains content in the English capital and has already informed Roma manager Jose Mourinho of his decision, while Arteta recently confirmed that Xhaka would stay at the club.

Xhaka - who impressed for Switzerland during Euro 2020 - has racked up 13 goals and 20 assists from 220 games at Arsenal, including three goal contributions from 44 appearances last term. body check tags ::
