Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to rival Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.

Newcastle United are reportedly contemplating whether to enter the race for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko.

The Magpies endured somewhat of a frustrating summer transfer window as they failed to add an experienced attacker to their senior ranks.

Nevertheless, after a period where they successfully avoided any sanctions for breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules, Newcastle have since made a positive impact in the top flight.

Victories over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest before the international break have left the North East outfit sitting in eighth place in the Premier League table with a game in hand.

Furthermore, Newcastle are just five points adrift of second-placed Manchester City ahead of playing host to West Ham United on Monday night.

However, have netted just 13 times during their 11 league fixtures during 2024-25, emphasising the need for reinforcements in the foreseeable future.

Newcastle ready to move for Bakayoko?

According to TBR Football, Newcastle are ready to join the race to sign Bakayoko during one of the upcoming transfer windows.

The Belgium international's stock has continued to rise this season, contributing five goals and two assists from his appearances in the Eredivisie and Champions League.

That said, the 21-year-old's contract is due to expire in 2026, setting up a scenario where PSV can expect bids for his signature.

Having chipped in with 26 goals and 22 assists from 102 appearances, as well as winning one Eredivisie and two KNVB Bekers, it is realistic to anticipate the player looking to take on a new challenge.

Are Newcastle a genuine option?

With Arsenal and Liverpool viewed as long-term admirers, Newcastle are not necessarily regarded as favourites to get a deal over the line.

However, Eddie Howe and the club's recruitment team have reportedly been monitoring Bakayoko's situation at PSV since the summer.

Their more illustrious domestic rivals are unlikely to target a winger in January, potentially freeing up a big-money approach from Newcastle.

Much may depend on whether PSV are open to a January sale or if Bakayoko wants to make the switch to the Premier League in two months time. body check tags ::
