Marseille have reportedly submitted a bid to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The Ligue 1 club are preparing for their first season under the guidance of former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi.

Marseille are hoping to assemble a strong squad that can improve upon last season's disappointing eighth-placed finish.

They began their summer business with the additions of Bamo Meite, Ismael Kone and Lilian Brassier, before they recently completed the signing of Manchester United academy product Mason Greenwood.

Marseille signed Greenwood from Man United for a reported €31.6m (£26.6m), with the 22-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

Marseille want to sign Nketiah following Greenwood arrival

Having secured Greenwood's signature, Marseille are now seemingly keen to bring in another player from a Premier League club.

According to Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 side have submitted an initial proposal to sign Arsenal's Nketiah this summer.

The report claims that Marseille are currently in discussions with Nketiah over personal terms, with the forward said to be open to a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Marseille view Nketiah as a replacement for former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who recently completed a switch to Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah.

Will Arsenal allow Nketiah to depart?

Nketiah has a strong association with the Gunners, having spent nine years with the club following his departure from Chelsea's youth system in 2015.

The 25-year-old has made 168 competitive appearances for the North London club, scoring 38 goals and providing seven assists.

He still has three years left to run on his current contract after signing a new deal in the summer of 2022.

However, the Gunners are likely to sanction his departure this summer as long as they receive a suitable proposal.

Nketiah does not feature heavily in Mikel Arteta's plans despite beginning the 2023-24 season as the club's first-choice striker.

The Englishman soon dropped behind Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in the pecking order, ensuring that he had to settle for fleeting substitute appearances in the second half of the Premier League season.

After being restricted to 10 Premier League starts last term, Nketiah may view a potential move to Marseille as the perfect opportunity to gain regular game time. body check tags ::
