Real Madrid 'leading the race for Bayern Munich's Serge Gnabry'

Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry emerges as a leading transfer target for Real Madrid, according to a report.

Real Madrid are reportedly at the head of the queue for Bayern Munich attacker Serge Gnabry.

The 26-year-old has again been a vital player for the Bundesliga champions during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 17 times and contributing 10 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.

The Germany international only has little over 12 months left to run on his current deal at Allianz Arena, though, and there has been a host of speculation surrounding his future over the last few weeks.

A recent report claimed that Gnabry had turned down the chance to sign a lucrative deal with Bayern, which had placed Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on high alert.

Liverpool and Juventus have also previously been credited with an interest, but according to Fichajes, Real Madrid are currently in pole position for the German's services.

Gnabry has allegedly been offered the chance to double his salary at Bayern to a figure in the region of £14m.

The proposed new deal would place him alongside Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane in terms of the highest earners at Allianz Arena, but the former Arsenal youngster reportedly does not feel valued by the German giants and is unsure whether he will have a leading role moving forward.

An impressive spell at Werder Bremen led to Bayern signing him in 2017, and he has made 170 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 64 goals and registering 40 assists in the process.

Gnabry has again been in excellent form in the Bundesliga this term, scoring 14 goals and registering six assists in 33 appearances, while he netted three times in the Champions League, as the club reached the quarter-finals before losing to Villarreal.

Bayern are not in a strong position to demand a high transfer fee for the German and would run the risk of losing him on a free next summer if a resolution cannot be found.

Real Madrid are still working to sign Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer, but they have lost out to Manchester City in the battle for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland.

The futures of a number of the club's current attackers are unclear, meanwhile, which could lead to a couple of new forwards moving to Bernabeu in the upcoming market.

Gareth Bale will leave Los Blancos on a free transfer at the end of June, while Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz could all potentially be surplus to requirements this summer.

Real Madrid have allegedly now secured a deal for Antonio Rudiger, with the Germany international available on a free transfer this summer, having failed to agree a new contract at Chelsea.

Carlo Ancelotti's secured the La Liga title at the end of April, while they will take on Liverpool in the Champions League final later this month. body check tags ::
