Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain are attempting to sign Gianluca Scamacca.
Ahead of this campaign, the forward had not made a notable impression, spending a number of loan periods away from his parent club.
During 2020-21, Scamacca contributed eight goals from 26 appearances for Genoa in his first full year of Serie A football, leading to Alessio Dionisi handing him an opportunity at the Mapei Stadium - Citta del Tricolore.
In return, the 23-year-old delivered a standout campaign, netting 16 goals from 25 starts and 11 substitute appearances in Serie A's top flight.
On Thursday, reports emerged that PSG were ready to do their utmost to part ways with two of their current frontmen to accommodate the arrival of Scamacca.
The Ligue 1 giants have allegedly asked super-agent Jorge Mendes whether he is able to help move Mauro Icardi to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
On the same day, it was claimed that Leeds United were pushing to sign Arnaud Kalimuendo, the 20-year-old also being deemed surplus to requirements at Parc des Princes.
Carnevali has since spoken to Sky Sport Italia, acknowledging that new PSG sporting director Luis Campos had registered an interest in signing Scamacca.
The Sassuolo chief said: "Meeting with PSG for Scamacca? Luis Campos is a friend, we talked about more players also during the Champions League final, but Scamacca was certainly the subject of our conversation. I think he is a player who is of interest to many clubs."
The Italian side, who finished in 11th position in Serie A last season, are said to be open to discussing a deal worth in the region of £35m.
Of the other clubs who are said to be monitoring the situation, Arsenal have been heavily linked with the player as they bid to resolve their striker situation.
According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are on the brink of finalising a new long-term contract with Eddie Nketiah, who ended the last campaign as first choice.
That would likely leave Arsenal facing a choice of whether to try to rival PSG for Scamacca, or get a deal for Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus over the line.
The North London outfit are also expected to announce the signing of Porto playmaker Fabio Vieira over the coming days. body check tags ::
