Fabian Schar will reportedly try to tempt Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka into a January move to Newcastle United.
As a result of his angry outburst towards supporters who cheered his substitution against Crystal Palace, Xhaka has missed four matches in a row and been stripped of the club captaincy.
There have been widespread claims that Xhaka will now be allowed to depart the Emirates Stadium at the midway point of the campaign, with Newcastle suggested as a potential destination.
According to Sky Sports News, Magpies defender Schar will attempt to convince his Switzerland teammate that he should make the switch to St James' Park.
While Xhaka will not be short of options, the 27-year-old is likely to favour a club where he will receive regular first-team football ahead of Euro 2020.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce will allegedly be in the market for a new midfielder at the beginning of 2020.
