Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an official approach for Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen.
The North London club have been linked with the 25-year-old defender in recent weeks alongside local rivals Arsenal, who are believed to be determined to clinch the player's signature.
It is believed that Tottenham are keen to wrap up a £7m deal for the defender, who is thought to have been a long-term target for the club, according to Goal.com.
Vertonghen's agent Mustapha Nakhil told De Telegraaf: "Jan does have a few dream clubs, which are very special to him. To play in the top of the Premier League is something he always hoped for."
It is understood that Spurs are trying to find a defender to take over from the likes of Ledley King and William Gallas.
