Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is adamant that he did not become complacent at the club after signing four-year contract extension after his side's good start to the season.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that his new contract has not distracted him from getting positive results for the club.

The Scot signed a new long-term deal with the Villans after their good start to the season as they collected 10 points from their opening four games.

However, since signing the new contract Lambert's side have lost five matches on the spin and have failed to score in 531 minutes, which has left him and his side facing criticism from supporters.

Lambert told reporters: "I am not wanting to sit on my backside and am not like that as a person. I am not interested in monetary stuff and want to do my best for this football club and drive it on.

"Anyone who knows me knows I was never one for sitting thinking I was comfortable.

"You live in fear – I did that as a player, it is professionalism. I enjoy living on the edge. I am not going to wilt. It is a brilliant club to be at and I want to do my best for it."

Villa face Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League clash on Sunday.
