Gerard Houllier is recovering in hospital after falling ill last night.
The Villa boss did not suffer a heart attack, according to reports, although exact detail of his illness is unclear. Houllier underwent heart surgery in 2001 after suffering chest pains during a Liverpool-Leeds game.
Houllier, who is said to be in a "comfortable" condition, was well enough to speak to club chief exec Paul Faulkner this morning.
Assistant manager Gary McAllister is expected to take over for Villa's home game with Stoke on Saturday.
