Paul Lambert: 'The fans are behind us'

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insists that he and his players have the support of the club's fans despite their heavy defeat to Swansea City.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert is adamant that the supporters will get behind his side in their crunch match with Hull City next week.

The Villans are perilously close to the relegation zone in the Premier League following their 4-1 defeat to Swansea City on Saturday.

In the loss at the Liberty Stadium, the club's supporters let their feelings known to Lambert over his management of the club, reportedly chanting for his removal as boss.

Lambert told reporters: "The players know the level at this football club is huge. They'll take it on board, but we'll need the fans to roar us on next Saturday and I have got no doubt they will do that.

"The supporters come in their thousands week in week out. They'll get right behind us, I don't ever have a problem with that sort of thing. The supporters have been great. The support is second to none. Nobody wants the club to be in this position.

"The club should never be in this position, it's too big a football club. What is most important is for Aston Villa to get over the line."

Villa are 16th in the Premier League with 35 points from 35 games this season.
