Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood believes that Tom Cleverley can break his duck for the Villans in the near future and become a regular goalscorer this season.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has backed Tom Cleverley to find the net on a regular basis for his side in their remaining matches this season.

The 25-year-old joined the Villans on loan from Manchester United in September last year, but has struggled to make an impact at the Midlands club.

However, Sherwood has seen enough promise in Cleverley's displays and ability to be confident that he can become a integral part of his team as a goalscoring midfielder.

He told the club's official website: "I think he's done very, very well. When you have been hailed as the next Paul Scholes it puts a lot of pressure on you doesn't it? Tom Cleverley is a player in his own right, he's only young. He's got a big future ahead of him.

"I think he's capable of scoring.I remember watching him for Watford when he scored about 10 goals in a season on loan. You can either score or you can't.

"He certainly can. I know Roy Hodgson used him as a No.10 at times. To do that you have to be able to score goals and he's more than capable of doing that."

Villa are in FA Cup action later today in their quarter-final tie against local rivals West Bromwich Albion.
