Aston Villa youngster Andreas Weimann insists that his side remain confident of beating the drop this season despite losing late on at Arsenal last weekend.

Aston Villa forward Andreas Weimann has insisted that his side can take heart from their battling display at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Weimann brought Villa level against Arsenal on Saturday but switched off late on as Nacho Monreal set up Santi Cazorla to seal a 2-1 defeat.

The young Austrian admitted that he was at fault for Arsenal's winner but believes that Paul Lambert's side will survive if they can show the same fight in every match for the rest of this season.

He told The Mirror: "We're disappointed not to get anything out of the game in the end but we switched off for one second in the last five minutes and that cost us.

"We try our best not to do it but for the second goal I switched off for one second and they scored. I was unlucky. I'm not saying sorry but I know myself I should have tracked him. I tracked him all game and for one second I switched off.

"But we have to take confidence from this for the last few games. We're all together and we're all confident we can get a few more wins and get out of this. We'll go into the Man City game trying to win it. The place will be rocking."

The 21-year-old took his tally to 10 goals in all competitions for Villa with a strike from distance in North London.
