Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that he expects to sit down with Fabian Delph in the summer to discuss extending his contract at the West Midlands club.

Delph has been one of Villa's star performers during the current campaign, but despite the former Leeds United man having just 18 months remaining on his existing deal, Lambert has insisted that no talks will be held until May.

The 44-year-old told the Birmingham Mail: "There's too much football to play before we talk contracts, there is a lot of work to be done. He's enjoying his football and playing really well at the moment.

"I'm a great believer that all these things take care of themselves. The most important thing is to win.

"Once we get to the end of the season, we will sit down. He's never mentioned anything, he's just enjoying his football. You can't get into all that kind of talk during the season, it's distracting."

Delph has scored three goals in 22 appearances this season.
