The agent of Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita has claimed that Newcastle United have submitted an offer for his client.
Dutch club Ajax are believed to be eager to retain the services of their 23-year-old Holland international.
However, they face competition from the Magpies and potentially new Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert, according to agent Harry Lulofs.
"Ajax are very satisfied with the guy and want to keep him but Newcastle have been watching him for a long time and really want to sign him," said Lulofs. "This is the first offer Ajax have received for Vurnon and we'll soon see how they react.
"The only other Premier League club to get in touch was Norwich. Paul Lambert called me to ask about him.
"Now he has moved to Aston Villa, so maybe they will be in touch. I don't know."
Anita came through the youth ranks at Ajax.
