Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is reportedly keen to sign Charlton Athletic midfielder Dale Stephens.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Addicks on a three-year contract from Oldham Athletic 13 months ago, played a starring role in the side's League One title win last season.
He has also started all three games in the Championship so far this term.
According to Sky Sports News, Lambert wants to give Stephens the chance to step up to the Premier League and Villa have lodged a firm bid for the player.
Villa host Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the Capital One Cup later tonight.
