World Cup winner Mario Gotze has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Atletico Madrid.
After falling down the pecking order at the Westfalenstadion, Gotze will depart Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer at the end of the month, bringing to an end his second spell with the Bundesliga outfit.
Despite his lack of game time, the 28-year-old will not be short of offers this summer as clubs from the Premier League consider a bid for the Germany international.
However, according to reports in Spain, Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants to hand the playmaker an opportunity to revive his career in La Liga.
Unless player sales are made, Atletico may have to place priority on bringing in free agents due to already being committed to pushing through a permanent deal for Alvaro Morata.
Having made just six starts and 14 substitute outings this season, Gotze is likely to show preference to joining a club where he will receive regular first-team football.
