Newcastle United have announced that they have completed the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier.
The England international had been keen to return to his homeland during the summer transfer window, only for any interested clubs to fail to meet Atletico's valuation.
However, the right-back has now secured another stint in the Premier League, moving to St James' Park for an undisclosed fee.
The 31-year-old has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Magpies, matching the period that he ultimately spent at Wanda Metropolitano.
Speaking to the club's official website, Trippier said: "I'm delighted to be joining this fantastic club. I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
"I'm aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players. I can't wait to get started and I'm excited to step out at St. James' Park as a Newcastle player."
Trippier represents Newcastle's first of what is likely to be many additions during the January window as they bid to move out of the Premier League relegation zone. body check tags ::
