Roma reportedly remain eager to end the loan spell of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches.

During the summer, the acquisition of the Portugal international was regarded as an important business by Roma as they bid to break back into the top four of Serie A.

However, Sanches has not lived up to expectations with just three starts and six substitute appearances being made in all competitions.

The only time that the 26-year-old has played more than an hour in any fixture is the 61 minutes that he was given against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on December 14.

In total, Sanches has featured for just 116 minutes in Serie A, and he has missed the last two fixtures in Italy's top flight with an ankle injury.

With Roma still participating in Europe, there is the potential for Sanches to be handed more game time as the season progresses, providing that he can stay fit.

Nevertheless, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Roma are eager for Sanches to find a different solution before the end of the month.

Despite that desire, PSG are under no obligation to take Sanches back to Parc des Princes, and seemingly do not plan on doing so due to his wages and remaining out of favour.

Romano adds that they will only take action should another club show an interest in taking over Sancho's loan terms for the remainder of the campaign.

Roma allegedly have an option to buy Sanches at the end of 2023-24, but that is not something that will be pursued unless a U-turn is performed in due course.

One reason why Roma want to bring an end to Sanches's stint is allegedly due to wanting to secure a loan deal for Atletico Madrid defender Caglar Soyuncu.

According to Il Tempo, terms are close to being agreed, but a transfer will not go through unless Sanches leaves Stadio Olimpico.

Sanches made a total of 27 outings for PSG during the previous season, yet the appointment of Luis Enrique has led to the club going in a different direction.
