Tim Cahill has said that it would be "very special" to break the all-time Australian goalscoring record at his former home ground tonight.

Cahill, 34, is expected to line up for the Socceroos when they take on Ecuador at Millwall's The Den in an international friendly tonight.

He goes into the game level with Damian Mori on 29 goals for his country.

"I was speaking to someone really close to me last week about how the stars can align like this," Cahill, who spent six years with Millwall between 1998 and 2004, told the Lions website.

"This is where it all started, so to score, if I play, will be a very special moment in my career. Millwall, along with Everton, is the place I call home."

Cahill's most memorable moment in a Millwall shirt came when he scored the winner against Sunderland to help the Lions to the 2004 FA Cup final.

He currently plays for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.
