Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Sevilla and Barcelona, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Barcelona will be aiming to post a third straight victory in Spain's top flight when they continue their campaign with a contest against Sevilla at Estadio Ramon on Sunday evening.

The visitors are third in the La Liga table, four points behind leaders Real Madrid, while Sevilla sit 12th, but Los Nervionenses are only four points off sixth in the race to secure European football for next season.

Match preview

Sevilla boast a record of seven wins, seven draws and eight defeats from their 22 league matches this season, with a total of 28 points leaving them in 12th spot in the table.

Los Nervionenses finished 14th in Spain's top flight last term, which represented their worst season since being relegated in 1999-2000, and it has again been a tough campaign, with this team seriously short of being a top-four challenger.

However, Garcia Pimienta's side are only four points off sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano, meaning that European football is achievable for next season, and sixth would represent an excellent campaign for the club.

Sevilla will bring a four-game unbeaten run in La Liga into this match, sharing the points with Valencia, Espanyol and Getafe this year, in addition to recording a 2-1 victory away to Girona.

Garcia Pimienta's team have also been solid at home this season, picking up 18 points from their 11 matches in front of their own fans, but Barcelona have the best away record, boasting 24 points from their 12 games on their travels.

Barcelona will enter the match off the back of a 5-0 win over Valencia in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, with Ferran Torres scoring three times in what was a dominant performance from the Catalan giants.

Hansi Flick's side have also won their last two league matches against Valencia and Alaves, and a total of 45 points from 22 matches has left them in third spot in the table, three points off second-placed Atletico Madrid and four from the leaders Real Madrid.

The top two in Spain meet on Saturday night at Bernabeu, so Barcelona will make ground on at least one of the teams above them if they are able to pick up a positive result on Sunday evening at Estadio Ramon.

Barcelona have lost three times in La Liga at their temporary home this season, including defeats to Las Palmas and Leganes, while three of their last four league matches on their travels have ended in draws.

The Catalan outfit have an excellent record against Sevilla, though, winning each of the last six La Liga matches between the two sides, while they have not been beaten by Sunday's opponents in Spain's top flight since October 2015.

Team News

Sevilla will be without the services of Jose Angel Carmona through suspension, with the defender picking up a milestone yellow card in the team's goalless draw with Getafe last time out.

Joan Jordan and Tanguy Nianzou are also on the sidelines due to injury problems, but the home side are otherwise in strong shape, and there are not expected to be any major surprises in their XI.

Juanlu Sanchez is likely to be the player to benefit from Carmona's absence, but it is set to be the same front three from the last match, including Dodi Lukebakio, who has scored nine times in La Liga this season.

As for Barcelona, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are out of the match, but Gavi is expected to be cleared to feature after missing out against Valencia due to a head injury.

Head coach Flick will make changes to the side that started against Valencia, with Marc Casado, Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo and Gavi all expected to be introduced into the XI.

Torres scored an excellent treble against his former club on Thursday, but the Spaniard is likely to be back on the bench here, with Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski and Raphinha set to feature as the front three.

Fit-again duo Dani Olmo and Inigo Martinez may both feature off the bench at Estadio Ramon.

Sevilla possible starting lineup:
Nyland; Sanchez, Bade, Gudelj, Pedrosa; Saul, Lokonga, Sow; Lukebakio, Romero, Vargas

Barcelona possible starting lineup:
Szczesny; Kounde, Araujo, Cubarsi, Balde; Casado, Pedri; Yamal, Gavi, Raphinha; Lewandowski

We say: Sevilla 1-2 Barcelona

Sevilla are certainly capable of picking up a positive result here, and it has been a solid start to 2025 for the team. That said, it is difficult to ignore Barcelona's record against Sevilla, and despite the quick turnaround from the Copa del Rey clash with Valencia, we are expecting Flick's side to navigate their way to an important three points on Sunday night.
