Al-Nassr have reportedly approached Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets over a move to the Saudi Arabian outfit at the end of the campaign.

The 34-year-old's contract at Camp Nou is due to expire this summer, and he is yet to decide whether to extend his stay in Catalonia or seek pastures new.

There is believed to be a host of MLS interest in the experienced midfielder, with Inter Miami thought to be at the head of the queue for his services.

However, there has recently been speculation surrounding a potential move to Saudi Arabia.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Al-Nassr have now officially approached Busquets to discuss joining the club on a free transfer when his Barcelona deal expires at the end of June.

Romano adds that the former Spain captain is yet to make a decision on his future, as he is weighing up staying at Barcelona for another year with trying a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Busquets has again been an important player for the Catalan giants during the 2022-23 campaign, making 27 appearances in all competitions, contributing one assist in the process.

The midfielder has missed Barcelona's last two games against Villarreal and Manchester United through injury, but he is back in the squad for Sunday's La Liga clash with Cadiz.

Busquets's return is timely for Xavi's side, who will be without both Pedri (hamstring) and Gavi (suspension) for next week's Europa League knockout round playoff second leg with Man United.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently said that it would be "difficult" if Busquets left this summer.

"For now we are focused on La Liga. Sergio is an important player for us and it'll be difficult for our team's dynamics if he leaves," he told reporters.

"When he decides, we'll talk about it. Neither party considers that it's the moment. We had a meeting before Christmas because he had offers from the MLS."

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Xavi recently told reporters: "In the end, we all work together and the decision is his. We are waiting to see what he decides. He is a very important person inside and outside, he is the captain.

"He is part of everything and he has earned the right to decide his future. If he can continue, I'd be delighted."

Al-Nassr famously signed Cristiano Ronaldo at the start of this year following the Portugal international's release from Manchester United, and the forward has scored five goals and registered two assists in five appearances for the Saudi Arabian outfit. body check tags ::
