Barcelona have reportedly entered into discussions with Villarreal over a potential deal for Pau Torres.
The 23-year-old, who made his Spain debut last November, has contributed one goal and two assists in 26 appearances for the Yellow Submarine during the 2019-20 campaign.
Both Arsenal and Manchester City have previously been linked with the centre-back.
However, according to Sport, the Spanish champions have begun negotiations with Villarreal ahead of a proposed switch during this summer's transfer window.
Torres is thought to have a €50m (£46.2m) release clause in his contract at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Quique Setien's side are also believed to be exploring the possibility of signing Manchester City's Aymeric Laporte as they look to bring a new centre-back to the club this summer.
