Barcelona are reportedly planning to move for Valencia defender Jose Gaya during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old has again been a vital player for Los Che during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring twice and contributing four assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

Valencia are working to sign their captain to a new deal, with his existing terms due to expire in June 2023, but according to Sport, Barcelona are determined to secure his signature this summer.

The report claims that the Catalan giants view the Spain international as their number one target to challenge and eventually replace Jordi Alba at left-back.

Alba remains a key player for Barcelona, making 23 appearances this term, but the Spaniard, who has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2024, will be 33 next month.

Gaya has spent his entire professional career with Los Che, making 280 appearances for the Spanish outfit in all competitions, winning the Copa del Rey during his time at the club. body check tags ::
