Leganes have been informed by the Spanish FA that they will not be able to sign a replacement for striker Martin Braithwaite, who departed as an emergency signing for Barcelona.
The Denmark international joined Quique Setien's side following long-term injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, with La Liga clubs able to sign players outside of the regular transfer window for injuries lasting five months or more.
However, Leganes, who are currently embroiled in a relegation battle in La Liga, have been officially informed that they cannot make an emergency signing to replace Braithwaite.
According to AS, the Spanish FA took the matter to FIFA, however the governing body stated that Los Pepineros can only bring in a free agent as a replacement.
The report also states that Leganes were in 'advanced talks' with a potential replacement for the 28-year-old, who registered six goals and two assists for Javier Aguirre's side this season prior to his departure.
