A report claims that Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has blocked Roma's attempts to sign Adriano.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has reportedly blocked Roma's attempts to sign Adriano.

Rumours of a £8m move to the Serie A runners-up gathered pace over the weekend, with the Brazilian due to join the Italian side this week.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Enrique has now blocked the move as he wants the defender to compete with Jordi Alba at the Camp Nou next season.

Adriano is seen as the back-up left-back for the Catalan outfit, but featured 39 times for Barca last season due to Alba's injury problems.

Adriano joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2010.
