Sergi Roberto has reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona to extend his contract with the club.
The 31-year-old right-back has spent his entire 13-year professional career at Camp Nou, but his long-term future has been called into question as his current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.
A recent report claims that Roberto rejected Barca's opening contract offer following conversations with his agent Jose Maria Orobitg.
However, Spanish news outlet Revelo claims that Roberto has now 'given the OK' to pen fresh terms for a renewed contract.
The report adds that the Spaniard's new deal is set to run until 2024 with an option to extend by a further 12 months.
In January, Roberto expressed his desire to commit his future to Barcelona but refused to be drawn on speculation that an agreement was close.
"There is no news about my future. Everything remains the same. My desire to continue is the same, we have not started to speak at the club. I am sure that in the coming days or weeks we will speak with the president," Roberto told reporters as quoted by Football Espana.
Asked whether he feels he is trusted by head coach Xavi, Roberto added: "My desire is to be at the club of my life. I was a Cule when I was little and I have always said that I wanted to be here as long as possible.
"I come from a few years in which I have not been able to be 100% due to injuries. Since he arrived I felt the confidence of Xavi.
"When they arrived, it's true that I just had surgery, yes. But I've always felt it. Everything is in place to be able to spend more time here, it's the club of my life. We'll see how the conversations and the season go."
Roberto has endured an injury-hit campaign in 2022-23, starting 10 of his 18 appearances across all competitions including just five starts in La Liga.
However, Xavi is said to have been impressed with Roberto's contribution in the first team, and the Catalan boss would like to see the right-back remain at the club for the 2023-24 season.
Roberto is not the only first-team player who is out of contract in the summer, as captain Sergio Busquets is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who has made over 700 appearances for Barcelona, is allegedly wanted by Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr who are prepared to offer him a contract worth €18m (£16m) across two seasons. body check tags ::
