Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets will leave Camp Nou when his contract expires at the end of June.
The 34-year-old has again been a vital player for the Catalan giants during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 39 occasions in all competitions, contributing four assists in the process.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta and head coach Xavi have expressed on a number of occasions their desire to keep hold of the experienced midfielder, at least for another season.
However, Busquets has decided to seek pastures new when his deal expires at the end of next month.
"Although it has not been an easy decision, I think the time has come," Busquets said in a video on social media. "It has been an unforgettable journey. I always dreamed of playing with this shirt and at this stadium. Reality has exceeded all my dreams.
"It has been an honour, a dream, a source of pride, and it meant everything to defend and represent this badge for so many years.
"But everything has a beginning and an end. I want to thank all the people who made this possible, from the first day to the last.
"I wouldn't have believed you if you told me when I arrived as a youth player that I would play 15 seasons for the best club in the world, the club of my life, of which I have been, am and always will be a fan, member, player, captain, and surpass 700 matches."
Meanwhile, when announcing his departure on their official website, Barcelona branded Busquets "one of the best players ever to represent the club".
"Sergio Busquets, one of the best players ever to represent the club, will leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season.
'Sergio Busquets' story at Barca is one of class and commitment in the centre of midfield. His talent and his ability to read the game has made him one of the best defensive midfielders in the game."
Busquets has made 719 appearances for Barcelona since debuting in 2008, scoring 18 goals and registering 45 assists in the process.
The midfielder has also won eight La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey trophies and three Champions League crowns during a highly-successful period at Camp Nou.
Busquets has already helped Barcelona win one trophy this season, lifting the Spanish Super Cup in January, while Xavi's side are on the verge of securing the La Liga title.
Barcelona, who are 13 points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid in the table with five games left, are next in action away to Catalan rivals Espanyol on Sunday night. body check tags ::
