Barnsley boss Keith Hill believes that the club and the fans should be proud of securing their Championship status despite their recent poor form.

Barnsley boss Keith Hill has said that the fans should be proud of the club securing Championship football for another year.

Despite the Reds falling to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Hull City, their Championship status was confirmed by Coventry's < href="/football/coventry-city/result/result-coventry-0-1-millwall_24126.html">1-0 defeat to Millwall.

Hill revealed that his overwhelming emotion at survival was one of relief, but still believes that the players should take credit for staying up, despite their recent poor form.

"Our form has been awful since the turn of the year. When I came in we were relegation favourites, but we've overcome that and we've done it within our financial structure," said Hill.

"Our football club and the fans should be proud of that.

"It leaves a slightly bitter taste because our form up to January was excellent and gave us encouragement in terms of what we thought we were building."

Barnsley's two remaining Championship fixtures are against Bristol City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
