Era Flick at FC Bayern ends: Seven titles, two disappointments, one legacy
Sports Mole

Hans-Dieter Flick still has 90 minutes to go as coach of FC Bayern Munich. Then a period ends that, despite its short duration of only 19 months, it must be called an era. The 56-year-old won seven titles on Säbener Strasse, and the historic sixth-double succeeded in the very first season. When asked whether there had been any disappointments, Flick answered yes anyway. Now that Flick's era ends, who are you going to cheer and place bets on, on NetBet Sport?

It was a very pleasant press conference that Hansi Flick had to give before his 86th and last competitive game as Bayern coach. The journalists' questions revolved around the many successes of his tenure, the most beautiful moments, the greatest emotions. He thanks for "the good contact, I always enjoyed it", Flick let the press representatives know, who had thanked the coach beforehand. For 85 games, Flick was responsible for the stars of the record champions after he was promoted from assistant to interim and later head coach on November 4, 2019 due to the dismissal of Niko Kovac. Bayern achieved 69 wins during this period, with eight draws and eight defeats. That was enough for two championships as well as the titles in the DFB Cup, DFL Supercup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Flick: Kiel And Paris "Big disappointment"

And yet Flick had to put up with two sporting disappointments. "The cup in Kiel and, secondly, the Champions League quarter-finals against Paris. We played a fantastic game at home, although some players were missing. The team showed their quality, but unfortunately, we didn't score. That was a big disappointment, "admitted the 56-year-old looking back. Of course, Flick complains at the highest level, he has achieved a lot more than even the club management dared to dream. Especially winning the Champions League outshone everything. "The emotions afterwards, the whole team, how the substitute players cheered - that was overwhelming when you see it again. It will remain an absolute highlight in my career," emphasized Flick.

When his players play against FC Augsburg on Saturday (Saturday from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker at Eurosport.de), the focus is not only on the coach's farewell. With David Alaba, Jérôme Boateng and Javi Martínez, three long-time top performers will play their last game in Bayern dress. And because that's the case, Flick had no problem giving the trio a guarantee. "Any of these three who are able to play will do so."

Neither Alaba, Boateng nor Martínez have already signed with a new club. While Alaba is likely to land at Real Madrid, there is still no clear trend among colleagues.

Good-bye from Klose and Gerland

In addition, the two assistant coaches Miroslav Klose and Hermann Gerland turn their backs on the Reds. Both exits are accompanied by discordant notes. "What happens to me and where I will be in the next season is still decided by myself. I have a very clear plan. And I think Olli Kahn knows that very well," Klose ranted in the "Kicker" after Kahn had announced that the former striker could not make any promises for the future. Only: Klose did not want to stay with Bayern at all.

The news that the club will no longer work with Bayern veteran Gerland also made waves. "What you did with Hermann Gerland is awesome. He did everything that was possible for FC Bayern and what was in his power," criticized club legend Sepp Maier in an interview with "Sport1".

Lewandowski wants to improve Müller's record

The big sporting topic against Augsburg is the question of whether Robert Lewandowski scores again and cracks Gerd Müller's Bundesliga record with his 41st goal of the season. The result itself is almost of secondary importance because of the long-established championship and with ten points ahead of pursuers Leipzig. You might think so.

The trainer sees it differently, of course. "I hope for an absolute highlight at the end of our trip," emphasized Flick, who wants to put the icing on the cake with the 70th victory of his tenure in 19 great months at FC Bayern.
