Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Stefan Wessels has returned to Germany after spending last season with Danish club Odense Boldklub.
The 33-year-old, who has also played for Everton, has admitted that the move to his home nation could effectively end his playing career.
"In football you never know what will happen. But I am well aware of the consequences of my decision and I know that it will likely mean the end of my career," he told Sport-Bild.
"I deliberately opted for the family. I'm only open to clubs for whom I would not have to change my location of Osnabruck."
Wessels was capped at Under-21 level for Germany.
