Birmingham City boss John Eustace dismisses links with Rangers

John Eustace - who has been linked with a move to Rangers - says that he is "very, very happy" in his role as Birmingham City manager.

Birmingham City manager John Eustace has suggested that he would have little interest in entertaining the Rangers job should it become available.

On the back of the club's takeover in the summer, Eustace was retained by the new owners and backed with the funds generated from former player Jude Bellingham being sold by Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid.

Since then, Blues have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, collecting 11 points from their opening five fixtures in the Championship.

With 19 wins and 23 defeats from his 57 games as Birmingham boss, Eustace has an average overall record, yet he is currently regarded as one of the most highly-rated young British managers.

As a result, there has been speculation linking the 43-year-old with a surprise switch to Rangers should they choose to part company with Michael Beale.

With Rangers having lost two of their opening four Scottish Premiership fixtures during 2023-24 and missing out in the Champions League playoffs, Beale is coming under pressure to keep his job.

However, despite the possibility of being presented with a chance to move to the Glasgow giants, Eustace has hinted that he is more attracted to the ongoing project in the West Midlands.

Speaking to BBC WM, Eustace said: "It's all speculation. I'm not interested in any other job than Birmingham City. I'm very, very happy here.

He added: "I came here 14 months ago and I signed a three-year deal to try to help grow the club, to build this fantastic football club to back where it should be.

"We're coming up to halfway in doing that. I think there's been great progress and I want to continue with that progress and see this club fly.

"It's my job just to worry about the football club. That's all I care about. I don't look at social media and don't look at the press. All I concentrate on and can control is what I can do on the training ground with the players.

"There have been some ups and downs but I think everyone can see that we're going in the right direction, and I want to be here for as long as the club want me."

Eustace, who was born in near-by Solihull, had only ever managed non-league Kidderminster Harriers on a permanent basis before his stint with Blues, although he has also had a seven-game caretaker spell at Queens Park Rangers. body check tags ::
