Blackpool manager Ian Holloway believes modern football can learn from the Olympic Games.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has claimed that modern football can learn from the Olympic Games.

Speaking in his weekly column in The Mirror, the Tangerines boss said that the sport can learn a lot from the way the athletes have conducted themselves throughout London Games.

"Too many players are so rich that they have become totally detached from reality," said Holloway.

"Over the past 20 years, the cash that has flowed into football has made the Premier League the best in the world as the best players have been attracted to England by the mind-boggling financial rewards on offer.

"I love the game that has given me such a fantastic life but, for too many people, money now matters much more than medals.

"Some of the British performances at the Olympic Games have not been of this world. These athletes have no problem when they look at themselves in the mirror every morning. They play sport in its purest form for the glory of the game."
